Is this the hotel for you?

Yes, if...

  • You want to be by the sea: the hotel is in Lapad Bay, about 80 m from Lapad Beach.
  • You want the Old Town without staying inside it: a direct bus leaves 50 m away and reaches Pile in 10-15 minutes.
  • You value location: guests score it 9.2, the property's highest mark across 1,064 reviews.
  • You travel as a family or group: family rooms, a 40 m² apartment and a 70 m² two-bedroom apartment are available.
  • You want to eat on site: there is a restaurant with a terrace, a café bar and room service.

Perhaps not, if...

  • You want to walk straight into the Old Town: it is about 3 km away, reached by bus rather than on foot.
  • You are looking for a polished, high-end hotel: this is a simple three-star, rated 8.0 for facilities.
  • You'd rather not show documents on arrival: a photo ID and a credit card are required at check-in.
  • You arrive very late without warning: check-in closes at midnight and the property asks for your arrival time in advance.

Facilities and amenities

For a three-star seaside hotel, Hotel Dubrovnik covers plenty of ground. A restaurant with a terrace serves fish and meat dishes, backed by a café bar, a snack bar and room service, and free WiFi reaches every room with an internet computer at reception. The Lapad setting adds beachfront access and a sun terrace, while a tennis court, a children's playground and a programme of walking tours, live music and happy hours give you things to do without leaving the area. Practical services are solid too: a 24-hour front desk, concierge, tour desk, luggage storage, express check-in and check-out, an on-site ATM and a lift. Family rooms and airport pick-up on request round out the list, and the whole property is non-smoking.

Location and what to see

Getting there

Hotel Dubrovnik stands on Šetalište Kralja Zvonimira, a pedestrianised promenade in the green Lapad district, about 3 km west of the walled Old Town. Most visitors arrive through Dubrovnik Airport at Čilipi, roughly 20 km to the south-east. The Platanus shuttle runs after every flight and reaches the Old Town's Ploče Gate in about 30 minutes and the Gruž bus and ferry terminal in around 35, for about €10 one way; a taxi is quicker but costs far more. Dubrovnik has no passenger train, so other arrivals come by coach or by ferry into Gruž. From the hotel, city bus line 6 stops nearby and runs to Pile, the western gate of the Old Town, roughly every 15 minutes in about 10-15 minutes; the property also notes a direct bus leaving about 50 m from the door, and the front desk can arrange an airport pick-up on request.

What to see

Lapad is where locals swim and stroll: the palm-lined promenade ends at Lapad Beach, 80 m away, with more coves around the Babin Kuk peninsula. The real draw, though, is the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking the two-kilometre City Walls is the essential experience, best early or late to dodge the heat and the cruise crowds; the ticket also covers Fort Lovrijenac on its western cliff. Inside the ramparts, the limestone Stradun runs from Pile Gate to the Old Port, past Onofrio's Fountain and the bell tower. For the classic panorama, ride the cable car up Mount Srđ, or climb if you prefer. From the Old Port, boats reach the wooded island of Lokrum in about 15 minutes, while the Elafiti islands of Koločep, Lopud and Šipan make a longer day trip from Gruž. May, June and September are the pleasant months; July and August are hot and busy.
